Custom Tooth Erosion/Wear Program

Extrinsic and intrinsic sources of acid and/or insufficient volumes of saliva cause a loss of enamel and dentin from the surface of the tooth. Additionally, bruxism (tooth grinding) and tooth brush abrasions are exacerbated by acid erosion. Tooth erosion can cause sensitivity, and affect the bite and cosmetic appearance. There are several options for restoring teeth damaged by erosion. Treatment options may include restoring the teeth with crowns, porcelain veneers or bonding material.

Below is a list of high risk erosion factors or habits that can be controlled or eliminated to help slow down the rate of decay/wear:

  • Chewable Vitamin C, Antacids, Mints, Aspirin
  • Medications with hydrochloric acid
  • Medications that cause dry mouth

  • Soda (also soda swishing)
