Orthodontics

Think of your teeth as a team; when they're all lined up in their ranks ready to tackle a situation, you're set up for a win. If there's confusion in the ranks, speaking, eating, talking and smiling may all become more problematic.

Basically, your orthodontist is trained to help straighten your teeth. Technically, he or she treats malocclusions, or improper bites. An orthodontist undergoes 2–3 years of specialized training after dental school to specialize in straightening teeth to ensure proper form and function. Often braces are advised for children age 5 through the teens, but 1 in 5 patients who wear braces are adults.

Your orthodontist will conduct a thorough examination and evaluation to formulate a treatment plan designed specifically for you. This includes x-rays and the taking of impressions for an accurate model of your teeth and bite. The type and duration of treatment varies based on each patient's needs.

Today there are many different types of braces to choose from, including some that are made of clear material and are nearly invisible. We make every effort to ensure comfort and convenience for our orthodontic patients. Like breaking in a new pair of shoes, braces will become more comfortable after an initial adjustment period. We encourage orthodontic patients to feel free to ask for help with their braces at any time.
