Cosmetic Makeover
Michele Berry’s parents always made certain that their daughter received regular dental check-ups and maintenance care, including monthly visits to the orthodontist during her adolescent years. Their diligence paid off as Michele possessed a beautiful smile as an end result.

When Michele reached her mid-teens, she was diagnosed with a physical condition that required a regiment of medication. As a side effect, she was plagued with a dry mouth due to the decreased production of saliva. Consequently, her teeth became extremely brittle from the lack of moisture. They proceeded to chip and easily absorb stains. In an effort to quench her thirst, Michele consumed large quantities of sugary sodas that caused her teeth to decay rapidly.

Over time, Michele grew to accept the fact that she was fighting a battle that she was ultimately losing. She also understood that she was forced to trade her smile for her health. Fifteen years later, Michele’s teeth were riddled with fillings and deeply embedded stains. The beautiful smile that she was blessed with had become a faint and distant memory. She stopped smiling and frequently covered her mouth when she spoke. She had learned to accept the fact that her teeth were never going to look any better.

Michele became so apathetic to her situation that she stopped making regular visits to Dr. “D”. While reviewing records of his patients with his assistant, Bridget, they noticed that Michele hadn’t been in to see them for quite a while. Bridget knew the story of Michele’s health and the impact that it had on her teeth since they grew up in the same neighborhood.
